Three 20-something women trying to figure out what it means to be lay, Catholic, and modern all at once.

Addendum to "So a Guy..."

I'm seeking advice. Mr. Theology on Tap has called and asked me out on a date -- all well and good. Unfortunately, I can't go because I'm in a wedding this weekend. I tried to reschedule, but we wind up playing phone tag. Then, he calls twice in one night, without me having returned any of his calls (as I was out with friends). The first message entailed trying to come up with a new plan. The second call...wondering why I hadn't returned his call yet about the first call. And he commented on a Facebook status of mine. Is this weird, or is it me? Am I being too critical?

yeah. that's weird. perhaps not weird enough to say "actually, I don't want to go out with you" but certainly weird enough to raise some eyebrows. i mean: take a chill pill, guy.

I think I'll give him a shot...maybe he was just nervous..?

Hmm, I would say it's a little weird. He sounds a little desperate too, poor guy. Are you still going to go out with him?

I'd like to vote and say he probably just really likes you and does not want to miss out on the opportunity....Give it a shot. Got nothing to lose!

Hey-he's pursuing! Guys rarely do that anymore, so I would DEFINITELY call him back. He knows a good girl when he sees her. Give him a date. What've you got to lose? You did say he was handsome, right? ;P

Another male perspective:

Possibly it's weird, but quite likely it's completely innocent and he's just trying to get through to you. Don't rule him out for trying too hard just yet, without more to go on.

This touches on a basic problem many of today's Catholic singles have. Men are discouraged from pursuing too much because they'd be thought to be weird, desperate, wife-hunting (such a derogatory charge in some circles), etc. Women, meanwhile, wonder why they have a hard time getting dates. Both men and women need to be a little more understanding and a little more open-minded about the whole business. It's hard for both sides.

Granted, there is a point where one might be desperate and over-doing it, but if that's the case it will be plain as day.

Thanks for your comments -- I appreciate each of them. We're going out next week. I'm sure there will be a good post to follow :)

Prayers for you all!
