Law and Order: Abortion Debate

Today in my Bioethics class I am going to be showing an episode of Law and Order called "Dignity" which is centered on the abortion debate in America. Priests for Life have promoted it on their website and offered a link to view the episode for free. I wound up buying it from iTunes, as well as an episode of House called "Fetal Position." Here's hoping it will foster a good seminar discussion on the fundamental questions of rights and personhood in my classroom!

What a great idea! I'm sure your students will love it, I know I would if I were in your class. You'll have to let us know how it goes.

Well, some girls absolutely love the episode and the portrayal of the sides of the issue. However, two girls were extremely upset at the whole thing. At first I chalked it up to the unraveling of their previous belief system, but I'm starting to think one young woman may know someone who has had an abortion or may have experienced one herself based on subsequent questions she asked. Please pray for me as I proceed. It's so important for me to handle them with care!
